Spaces 4 Change will find, fund and support young people aged 16-24 to start and run social ventures which transform unused or under-utilised local spaces. The results should benefit their local communities, in particular other young people.
The programme will offer Awards of support and funding to 100 individuals and small groups over its duration. The Awards will consist of cash grants of up to £5,000 – which will include an innovative crowd funding element – tailored development support and peer to peer networking. The programme will also provide further tailored support to each Award Winner, led by a panel of experts in transforming spaces. The programme will also include an inspiration event – Dream, Act, Inspire – which will give the young people a chance to engage and build on their ideas together.
Social entrepreneurship will help young people to address their own personal and social challenges regarding the built environment – and to participate in positive ways in their communities, through finding solutions to these problems
The project aims to support 100-200 young people to create 100 social ventures across five years. It is anticipated that the 100 social ventures will impact on 700 other people across communities, but is recognised this could vary greatly depending on what sorts of social ventures they create
Young people will learn and develop new skills, including environment-related skills, which has been proved to equip them for social leadership in the future.
