19 year old Sam found himself sleeping rough after a family breakdown. During this time, he slept a former children’s play area in the park. ‘Being homeless made me paranoid, it was a nasty experience for me’. He eventually turned to the council who helped him find a flat. Friends and family donated furniture and as he became more settled he found a passion for gardening. He goes once a week to the Putting Down Roots for Young People project at a local allotment. At the sessions he is now studying Level 1 Horticulture and has enjoyed planting carrots, kale, potatoes and herbs. He is excited to cook a massive stew with the harvest.
