Keanu Groundwork London Individual 600x600
18 year old Keanu wasn’t sure what to do after finishing school. His Mum volunteered at ‘The Loop’ and suggested he come along too. The project manager then put him forward for an Our Bright Future placement. He had no prior experience of upcycling or customer service and didn’t know what he was capable of. Through doing his placement he learned how to fix furniture and make shelving, serve customers and do home deliveries. His manager was so impressed with Keanu that he has offered him longer-term work and he now supports the new trainees. His environmental knowledge has grown, and he has been learning how to prevent fly tipping, reduce items going to landfill and minimise the impact of chemical waste. His long-term goal now is to join the police.

‘It boosted my knowledge and experience in the workplace, boosted my confidence and led to full-time employment. With my role you start to see that there are more environmental issues that you don’t notice. Then it gets you thinking about the impact and the help you can provide.’
